TYs!

“Thanks for organizing and being part of the swim meet.  I thought it was great!” — Heidi L, Bozeman

“Thank you so very much for a wonderful weekend at the MT State Masters Swim Championships!  Your hospitality was much appreciated!  As the lone Billings swimmer, I felt included as a part of your team after Jen introduced me to so many people.  Thanks for the opportunity to swim on your relays, meet other enthusiastic swimmers, and have a fun time!!  Best of luck for the rest of the season!  Many Thanks!!”  — Jordan B, Billings

“Thanks for a great meet, folks had some great swims and a good time.” — Ellen P, Missoula

“Thanks!  I enjoyed the swim meet and the events were a good test for the Grizzly Tri.  I was hoping for faster times, but at least I now know where I’m at.  You guys did a very nice job with the event and I think everyone had a positive experience.” — Doug F, Bozeman

“Thank you for the wonderful meet you put on last weekend.  The Canyon swimmers enjoyed the meet.  I had never been to Bozeman before and was very impressed with the city, your swimming facilities and the friendliness of the Bozeman team.  Again, thank you and all the Bozeman volunteers who worked so hard.”  — Barbara J, Hamilton

“Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you for all of your massive efforts on behalf of Montana Masters swimmers.”  — Charlotte S, Helena

“Nice job with the meet.  I’d say it was more than a huge success, it was a lot of fun.  Thanks.” — Lisa M, Bozeman

Top Ten Times — 2008 Montana Masters Swimming Championships

Below is a preliminary and unofficial listing of twenty possible 2008 USMS National Top Ten times, established at the 2008 Montana Masters Swimming Championships.   That’s twenty very fast times, for five very fast swimmers!  They are — Brian Christiansen (1 event), Lee Cook (3), Molly Hayes (2), Barbara Jackson (4), and Charlotte Sanddal (10).

Each year, United States Masters Swimming publishes a list of the Top Ten times that have been swum in every event for each age group.  This list includes relays and long distance national championships.  These times can be found by clicking here — http://www.usms.org/comp/tt/.

Swimmers or relay teams that post the fastest time for an event in their age group achieve USMS All American status for that year.  Jim Dugan of BOZE is a current 2007 USMS Long Distance All American, having won the USMS 10K National Championship in Huntington Bay, NY last summer.

At the 2008 Montana Masters Swimming Championships, Charlotte Sanddal of Helena, eighty-six years young, not only set ten new state records for each one of her swims, it’s likely that all ten of her times will qualify as a 2008 USMS National Top Ten times, too.   Congratulations Charlotte!

Barbara Jackson of Hamilton, our resident 1948 Olympian, established four possible Top Ten times in the nation at the Championships.  Barbara was a 2006 USMS All American for her 50 LCM Backstroke time of 51.51 in the 75-79 Women’s age group.  If you don’t know about Barbara, you can learn more about her here —  http://www.usms.org/hist/sto/?ID=259.

Again, at this time, these unofficial times are only viable candidates for top ten times in the nation for 2008.  For short course yard times, the submission deadline is June 30, 2008.  Natasha Westphal, Montana Masters Record Keeper and Top Ten Chair, will review the Championships results and make the official submission to USMS.  USMS will review the time submissions and publish the official Top Ten times in August.

Congrats to Brian, Lee, Molly, Barbara, and Charlotte!  You’re in the hunt.

BOZE Individual Rankings — 2008 Montana Masters Swimming Championships

Here are the individual Bozeman Masters Swim Club rankings for the 2008 Montana Masters Swimming Championships.  Swimmers could swim a maximum of five individual events per day, or ten total individual events for the entire 2-day Championships.  Points were awarded 7-5-4-3-2-1 for first through sixth places respectively for each event, per age group.  The maximum number of individual points possible was 70.  The total of all BOZE swimmer individual points, plus BOZE points for the relays, yielded the BOZE combined team score of 1803.  BOZE had 55 swimmers competing at the Championships, well over half of the Club members!  Congratulations to Dan Behr and Michael Dougherty for totally maxing out at 70 points each!
